Another interesting weapon - Beretta CX4 Storm

I’ll admit it, I like techie looking guns. The Beretta CX4 comes in my favorite caliber, .40, and it retails for about $800. I’m a fan of polymer weapons, as they are low maintenance and lightweight. And despite what some dinosaurs think, they hold up well under punishing use.
Ozark Guns has a short review of the Beretta CX4 here. A more in depth review can be found at GunWeek.com.

I haven’t been that interested in purchasing an FFL yet. I’m not keen on allowing the Feds unlimited inspection access to anything I own. Loopholes that let government sneak around the boundaries originally imposed on it bother me.
The FN90 is an automatic weapon for close quarters defense, something I really haven’t had any need for or great interest in. If I do develop an interest who knows…

$800 for a semi-auto pistol caliber carbine? Allow me to suggest ways to get more bang for your buck. For less than 800 bucks, you could put together an M4-gery (16″ barrel) in 6.8mm SPC from a kit. You could buy an M4 lookalike complete in 5.56mm. You could get an AK with a folding stock in either 7.62×39mm or 5.45×39mm. For about 600 bucks, you can get an Auto-Ordnance M1-carbine and feed it softpoints. Any of these options gives you a weapon that hits a whole lot harder. If you really must have a cheesy blowback pistol caliber carbine, get a $200 Hi-point, or get four of them if you’ve got 800 bucks burning a hole in your pocket. You might still need two different types of ammo; hollow points that expand reliably at pistol velocities might lack penetration at carbine velocities.

The Beretta would be more of a “fun” gun than anything else for me, Mike.

Wow! You’ve got 800 bucks to spend on a fun gun! More power to you, dude! Sorry about the misunderstanding. My fun gun is an old Smith 422. If I had 800 bucks that my wife didn’t know about, it would go for a Springfield XD in .40 S&W, a holster, tritium sights, and as much ammo as I could get for the change.

Actually, I’m saving up. And I probably will get the Springfield XD .4. I have a post here wondering out loud about that weapon and it is by far the most popular blog entry I’ve done in a long time.
Lots and lots of people have made positive comments about the SA XD .40. No one has really made a negative comment. So I’m leaning that way.

Yeah, I was trying to decide between an XD and a Taurus 24/7, which is how I stumbled across your blog. The XD seems to get rave reviews. It’s even got a fan club down here in Houston (see http://www.txdpsa.com/index.php). There’s an article in the April(?) issue of TestFire about a 20,000 round torture test of the XD. Given the option, I’d like to fire both pistols first, but right now I’m thinking there’s an XD in my near future. I’ll send a range report if I get mine before you get yours.

$800 dollars! I can get about the same gun for about $300. All you have to do is buy a hi-point carbine rifle, which only costs about $175, then you can buy the new “advanced technology” stock for it. Which is the exact same stock as the “CX4 Storm”. After you put the new stock your hi-point carbine, it will look almost exactly like the “CX4 Storm”. Except now it will have a better and more accessible site function. The only setback for the hi-point is hat is doesn’t come in a .45 caliber, but it does come in both 9mm and .40 caliber, Also the Hi-point carbine is widely chosen by officers of the law for reasons of it’s reliability on the field and off. The New Stock only costs about $70 and that about all evens out to about $300, so you are saving $500 on this overpriced gun.

I wouldn’t mind trying that as a project in the next year or two DJ. Would you be willing to act as my technical adviser?
