Combat journalist pose

My unit asked me to pose with all the gear a combat journalist carries while on a mission. So here I am wearing full battle rattle with M16A2 rifle, M9 pistol, a still camera, a video camera, a tripod and assorted odds and ends.

Jesus, that’s a lot of crap. And here I was in the process of finding out how to reclass to your MOS.

Oh well. Anything has to beat being an Engineer.

Freeman, assuming you become a combat correpsondent in the Army, you probably won’t ever carry all that stuff.

There are two primary MOSes - print journalist and broadcast journalist. In the Army, those are 46Q and 46R. I hold both MOSes which is why they posed me with a still camera and a video camera. It’s still a lot of stuff though.

46 Quincy. Roger. I seem to remember that from Brogonzo’s blog. Anyway, I was a writing major in college, so print would seem to be the way to go. Now, how to get my piece-of-shit unit to let me reclass after the next rotation. My 128 GT-scoring ass gots no business as a 21-series.

    LOL

Sadley.. the USAF will become simluar to the Army when they combine Photo and Video into Public Affairs. But the one thing I could NEVER figure out in the AF was the issue of the M-16A2 or M-16A3 to Photographers and Videographers…

I can understand it when they told me that it was to provide “another grunt on the line” but the USAF is different from the Army.. we do not do small unit action as a rule aside from AFSOC and Security Forces. The M-9 makes more sense. But if you need to use the M-9.. your in deep do-do anyway..

So, are the weapons so that if someone refuses an interview, you can shoot them? ;-)

Good grief, that’s a lot of gear. How much weight does it all add up to?

Hmm. I would guess about 60 pounds when I add my Camelbak hydration system backpack and laptop, which I wasn’t wearing for the photo.

I’m currently an E-5 in the MN ARNG. I’ve been in for only 4 years as a 92A (Supply). *YAWN* On the civilian side, I’m majoring in Photography. I’ve been thinking about reclassing as a 46Q. Any advice? Would you recommend or discourage?
