Desert Volleyball

Volleyball during a sandstorm is an interesting experience. The frequent wind gusts are especially daunting. Serves can end up going just about anywhere and often do.
We won’t be here long, but some of the soldiers stationed at the post in the picture spend a year or more in the barren landscape. Ugh.

Yup, the players look a little forlorn. I’m glad you’re not spending a lot of time there and I hope the place you end up isn’t quite so desolate.

The landscape that direction never seems to change

Actually, it kind of looks like the beach. Though, without the water and the bikini clad babes I imagine it would only leave you with that uncomfortable sand in the shorts feeling.

It is kind of like the beach except for the rules and the micromanagement and the constant sound of military vehicles and the stink of human waste and the smell of burning diesel and the air conditioned tents filled with dust and the endless briefings and a few other things. Other than that it is just like the beach.
