eFax sucks

eFax sucks. There really isn’t any nice way to discuss the lack of customer service provided by eFax. I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Don’t take my word for it, read these:
Sippey’s opinion of efax.
Epinions’ opinions on efax.
Faxbeep.com opinions on efax

OK, now that I’ve clearly laid out the case for dumping Efax, and you probably surfed on in to this blog entry by googling eFax sucks or eFax blows or eFax bites, or something similar, it’s likely you wanted to know the same thing as me – what’s a good alternative to eFax? Fear not, fearless reader, I have an answer.

That answer is MaxEmail.

MaxEmail offers a number of different faxing plans. I’m considering the yearly service for $69, a savings of more than 50% over what efax was trying to get from us. Efax completely offended me by trying to raise rates from $99 to $139 a year without warning. I had been putting up with the crap service, but every camel has a proverbial straw that will break his back.

I’m testing MaxEmail for one month. If I’m happy, you’ll here about it here and I’ll be signing up for a year. I’m hoping MaxEmail will give me what eFax only ever promised.

You can read reviews on eFax and all of the other email fax vendors out there at FaxCompare.  It helped me make a smart, educated decision.

I've been with e-fax for 5 months and have received a very bad experience related to their post statements on their website concerning a promise to hold all faxes for 2 years. I have left all my faxes in the inbox so to view them from any hotel while on the road with work. When I opened my account tonight all 200 faxes were no where in site. Only my log showing proof that they were actually sent. When speaking with the customer service rep, from India, I was hung up on twice and was not able to get a clear answer to “where” and “why” my faxes may have been” moved” or “deleted”. The only answer I received was you only have 7 faxes, which I told them, and the dates sent. I felt as if I were the employee and they the customer, for I was telling them of the received log to the site which they knew nothing about. As far as an answer to my questions, they stated they would send me an email. I don’t know about you but I need a more reliable service especially when it concerns my business and money. Oh and as far as the email is concerned I have not received an email which contain a fax for 3 months, even though I HAVE TRIED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR THOSE 3 MONTHS. The ideal of the service is great, just hope you never need to change any portion or are dependant on the service. I am open for a new internet fax company if anyone has a great company in mind.

Since at least Tuesday noon, November 7, 2006, my eFax number beginning with area code 203 has been out of service. Now, more than 50 hours later it is still out of serivce. According to the customer support team at eFax, they cannot even say when the problem will be fixed. The eFax customer "support" team says all fax numbers with 203 area code (about 2000) are effected, so I am "not the only one." Small comfort when someone relies on eFax to commuinicate. This is not the first time I have had trouble with eFax. In my view their customer sevice is notoriously bad. There has to be a better service provider.
  • If you are using eFax to get documents signed, you might want to try our service, EchoSign @ www.echosign.com.

It's free and e-mails faxes right back to you as PDFs in your in-box.
  • Steven I'm sorry to hear eFax is still having issues with customer service. Let me know if you do hear from them, I'd like to do an update blog entry.

Monday I sent an eFax and somehow eFax appended 5 pages from a fax sent two months earlier. Scary! Still no answer from eFax support after two days. I wonder how many others have had confidentiality compromised in this way...
