Freedom, responsibility and political doublespeak

Stephen Gordon at Hammer of Truth writes that the cost of free speech just went up $292,500.

He quotes the President:

“In our free society,” President Bush said today, “parents have the final responsibility over the television shows that their children watch, or the websites they visit, or the music they listen to. That’s a responsibility of moms and dads all across the country, to make sure their children are listening to or watching the right kind of programming.”

Hmm. Something sounds wrong here. If parents are responsible, then why does government need to be involved? That doesn’t make sense.

  • You forgot the Drug War. In general terms, I agree with you Kitanis. It's one of the reasons I joined the Free State Project. Growth of government is not making America a better place to live. It's just making it a more tedious place to live.

    Truthfully....

I agree with L. Neil Smith when he stated on Radio Free Liberty two years ago.. This country is fast becomming to a being a police state. Along the lines of Spain was under Franco in the 50's through the 70's.

We have the Patriot Act, Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, Federal Scanning of phone call lengths of all citizens, TSA Screening when you fly on private airlines, and many other invasive "law enforcement" type laws to make us feel safe or to protect us...

Its interesting how only a few people notice the changes that are taking place...
