Just shoot it in the head

If you don’t like your dog, just shoot it in the head. I guess that is what ignorant people are taught by their parents because my wife found this dog on the side of the road today. It had been shot in the head with a small caliber weapon and left to die. Instead of having the common sense to do so, she decided to keep living.

Now she is in a safe place. Luckily, the bullet didn’t get into the brain cavity as far as we can tell. This poor little girl was covered in ticks and her skin was falling off from the acid in the pus draining from the wound. She was literally starving to death.

Someone who thought of himself as a human being brought this dog out in the middle of nowhere, shot her in the back of the head and then drove off. She found us. Now we’ll try and help her heal. If providence smiles on that process we’ll work on finding her a good home.

I will post updates on this loving Black Lab’s condition as she tries to heal and get back to a healthy weight. Her wounds could heal or she could die. She is chronically malnourished. My wife will do her best to nurse this poor little canine back to health. She is a very smart dog, and has already adjusted from a fearful, skittish animal back into a doting, loving typical Black Labrador. The breed tends to be very smart, and Beauty (my wife’s new name for her) is no exception. She wants human attention which is typical of her breed.

Green, again a comment from The Wife. :) I appreciate your concern. Yes, if we HAVE to, we will keep Beauty indefinitely, but we already have 17 rescues here. As much as we grow to love each one, we want some to find forever homes where they can get the one-on-one love and attention all dogs crave. We can give the 17 here food, shelter, care and "some" love, but nowhere near what they crave to live a happy "doggie" life.

Soooo. ... any serious adoption inquiries are considered.

We already have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, named Willow, so we would be looking for a dog that could socialize well. Labs from my experience can handle small kids well, and Willow is more like a 2 1/2 yr old kid, and do a good job of understanding their place in a "pack"/family. But if you have 17 please let me know what you have and what you think would do well in a loving family that might already have a "queen bee" (and I mean Willow not my wife). We've been considering Dog adoption for some time but this would be more to us than adoption considering my, albeit brief, time with Trevor in Iraq. The bond between dog and man is strong, but the bond between brothers in arms is stronger and I can solidify both those bonds. We want another dog and by an happenstance you rescue them. Send me an e-mail and let's talk. We would like to add another member of our family and it sounds like you might have that. Let me know what you have, I'll run it by the wife but the particular story with this case is very compelling.

Thanks Yoshi! Beauty will need to be here for a bit before I will be able to determine her personality around other dogs.  So far, she is sweet as can be, but she's not feeling too well yet.  Once her energy level and confidence has returned, she may show other traits.

This is the Wife. I just wanted to mention that I did take her to the vet. He gave antibiotics and a 2 week regime I have to follow of cleansing and packing her woulnd with gauze, along with treating her skin and taking care of her parasites and ticks, etc.

Dude, Green from Iraq here. Let me know if you need a home. I don't have any short term money but I'd meet you in the Carolina's. Hit me up at the e-mail in above with a phone number but if i've got the right read on you, you'll keep the dog.
