At first glance he might not appear a very remarkable candidate. I have found he is one of the few who seem to understand counterinsurgency having served as a Navy SEAL Commander in Iraq. For years I have been requesting opinions from congressmen of whether they are confident our troops have needed resources, such as CERP funding. I have not gotten one decent response. When I got in touch with Mike Lumpkin's headquarters asking his position on the matter the office immediately got me in touch with him. His understanding of what was going on in Iraq was refreshing.
