The new reality includes Marines without weapons

“In a major compromise, the Marines agreed not to carry guns while on Indonesian soil and for the vast majority of troops to return to ships stationed off the coast after each day’s operations.”

This story is perhaps one of the clearest testaments to the decay of Western civilization I have ever seen. By Western civilization, I mean the United States specifically.

First of all, the quote should be, “in a major compromise, the Marine commander, who is a politically correct sycophant, agreed that his troops would not carry guns while on Indonesian soil. . .”

Another quote from the story: “Hundreds of from troops from Australia, Singapore, Germany and other nations are also helping the relief mission. The Indonesian military is providing security for all of them.” Does anyone see any irony at all in the idea of the world reknowned Indonesian military providing protection to troops from much better equipped countries’ military units?

Speaking as a former U.S. Marine, I want to know who caved in and said, sure, we’ll disarm our Marines and put them on boats at night while we help clean up your dead. Whoever you are, you are a spineless fool.

Anyone who is dictating conditions for receiving assistance that include disarmed Marines doesn’t deserve to live and should receive no help at all. A disarmed Marine is like a fish out of water. I used to hear the expression “beggars couldn’t be choosers” quite often. It was used to remind those on charity that they should take what they were given and be grateful for it. Apparently, in our politically correct environment full of digusting U.S. appeasement monkeys, beggars can be choosers.

If I were in charge, those Marines would be long gone and the Sumatrans would be cleaning up their own mess. You simply do not disarm a U.S. Marine..

  • Bob,

No, that never really occurred to me. We live in an age of specialization. Marines are warriors and warriors carry weapons. Marines in boot camp are not trained to perform relief missions, they're trained to kill on behalf of the people of the United States of America. Relief missions are secondary, at best.

Speaking as someone with military service under my belt, I don't mind helping out when necessary but not if you disarm me first. Building good will is important. Being able to defend yourself when necessary is critical. Marines without weapons? I don't think so.

Did it ever occur to you guys that the marines might achieve more by not carrying guns than vice versa

Yeah, I joined the Georgia Guard as a Sgt. I figured I should be backing up my support of the U.S. military to the best of my ability.
  • Damn, you joined the guard? That's news we'll have to discuss next weekend. You do remember next weekend don't you? Your email account returns my emails btw.
  • Well, to be fair, they may still have their combat knives. It almost makes me reconsider my recent decision to join the National Guard.
  • Let me get this straight: We are deploying these boys on a humanitarian mission inside a country the has more OBL symapathizers than France, and we are taking away their means to defend themselves? If just one of these marines is murdered during the course of this excercise there should be repercussions all the way up to the Commander in Chief. Other than saying that, I have no polite way of expressing my rage at this.
