Obama as a monkey spurs cries of racism

A Marietta, Georgia man is stirring up controversy because he has printed up some t-shirts that say Obama in ‘08 with a monkey picture above the text.

I find it funny that none of the media furies are comparing this instance to the many images I’ve seen in past years of George W. Bush depicted as a monkey. I guess it is OK to show a white man in America as a monkey. When you do the same to a black man different standards are applied. Makes perfect sense if you are a mentally retarded person I suppose.

Typical Democratic whining. To be in their party you have to play the victim role throughout your entire life. Here are some photos of the double standard in action.

Obama Monkey '08

Bush Monkey 1

Bush Monkey 2

Bush Monkey 3

Why is it OK for one man to be shown as a monkey but not the other? Why is it racist to portray Barack Obama as a monkey but a matter of free speech when you do the same thing to George W. Bush? I Googled and could find only one incident of protests related to images of George W. Bush portrayed as a monkey. The protests, not surprisingly, were in favor of the artist who depicted the President in an image made entirely of smaller images of monkeys.

As the man in the middle caught between the two political gorillas that comprise American politics in 2008, I know why I tend to side with the less whiny of the two simians most of the time. Both of these large hairy beasts have bad breath. Both of them steal my bananas. Both of them are rude and smelly. But only one never quits whining about how unfair life is while it steals my bananas from me.

Barack Obama holds a phone upside down

UPDATE: I am not alone. Scott thinks along similar lines when it comes to Barack Obama’s monkey factor. As he points out in his comments section many of the Obama supporters whining about having their candidate compared to a monkey are the same people who perpetrated comparisons of George W. Bush and various chimpanzees. You can’t have it both ways. If the white guy can be compared to a monkey, so can the black guy and any other candidate.

What the? Why does everything in our country have to be racism? I am sick to death of this stupid split in the U.S. over black and white. What is the difference between a green tangerine and an orange one other than the color. They both taste the same and in this case both these monkey’s are the same smelly monkey’s, one is black the other white. People need to grow up and forget color. Makes me sick. There are more issues worth worrying over.

The racist, derogatory comparison of black people to monkeys has a long history, sir. Take a look at this piece of Nazi propaganda from the 1930s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Entartete_musik_poster.jpg
Please, sir, realize that there’s a huge difference between the comparison of a white person to a monkey and black person to a monkey. One is rooted in racism; the other has nothing to do with it.

    Belinsky,

I understand your point and I will agree that there is a history of white people in America associating black people with monkeys. The historical comparisons don’t really matter in this case for several reasons. A) These people are politicians and are therefore fair game. B) Racial sensitivity towards minorities has gone beyond the point of ridiculous in this country. I would not defend a guy who was peddling a t-shirt showing Obama being lynched. That is NOT what happened. It’s a Curious George t-shirt with the word Obama under it. C) This nation is killing itself by being obsessed with race and the past. If we cannot learn to have the same standards for ALL people regardless of what happened 100 or 10 years ago, we are just spitting on ourselves over and over.

    Gale,

I tend to agree with you about all the political monkeys smelling the same. Nasty buggers aren’t they?

So Belinsky, what other deragatory insults can we call White people, but cannot call Black people?

What other curse words are permissible to use against Whites, but not Blacks?

What smears, libel and defamation can be used only on Whites and never on Blacks?

My guess is, after decades of overdone ‘affirmative action’… ALL OF THEM.

Can we just, like, not use personal insults as a first resort? ‘Fair and respectful’ liberals can go first.

Sir, I think to say that depicting a black man as a monkey is the same as depicting a white many as a monkey is ridiculous.  To think that racism is something of the past is also ridiculous.  Racism still exist today.  It is just in another form…..peace, love to all………….

Of course racism still exists. That doesn’t mean showing Obama as a monkey is somehow inherently racist. If you believe that black men and monkeys share some inherent similarity, that’s your burden to bear, not mine.

Tragedy began with W. Bush. He distroyed USA. Obama is just a natural consequence. People now are blind. After 8 years with such president as W. Bush anything (anyone) will go.
Old America of Kennedy, glamour, prestige, quality & international power gone. Obama will bring the END.
It is TRAGEDY. He will turn USA into Harlem.

Who cares how they look, as monkey or gorilla. America need president who  can rule the world. These people are nobody.

I see you are visiting from New York, Brendon.

Why is it you think America needs a president who can rule the world? And who are “these people” you mention?

Personally, I think Obama is a natural consequence of government that interferes in all aspects of our daily lives - he promises to fix everything, doesn’t tell us what those fixes will cost, or how they will be implemented and we get excited about these nebulous promises! Yay! It’s all going to magically get better.
