Out of Uniform

Out of Uniform

Originally uploaded by trevor.snyder.

The forward operating base (FOB) was a special time for all of us. In this photo, Specialist Harold Lewis, Jr., enjoys a moment of peace and relaxation in the FOB’s house of worship.

OK, he’s actually in the latrine, and it’s dark outside, but flash photography solved that.

The FOB is not a fun place, nor is it supposed to be. Being intelligent and motivated soldiers, we found ways to make some non-officially supported humor happen. And in case anyone reads this that might feel a sense of concern, we also performed our training and duties professionally and efficiently.

    Hooray! You’re back.

I’m not surprised you took this pic, but I can’t believe you posted it! Better hope Spc. Lewis doesn’t read your blog.

On a side note, if these soldiers are so “intelligent and motivated”, then why are they supporting a war based on a pack of lies and unachieved objectives, propagated by a leader that has recently been likened to Adolf Hitler?

    “rolls eyes”

    Jamal.

Apparently.. you fail to understand the committment of serving armed forces members. Each person volunteers to serve in their respective branch of service and to follow the orders of those above them.

The oath of enlistment is below:

“Enlisted Oath: I, ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the president of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

Right, wrong, or in-different.. they are obeying their orders. Trevor himself has posted in this blog about his personnal feelings about the Iraq situation.. and I will not repeat them here. The training and preperation for the upcomming deployment dose not consitute a support of the policy.

As far as the statement of the President to be the likes of Adolf Hitler.. I believe that is a little strong statement in my personal opinion. Its easy to look back with hindsight and criticize after the fact. Lord Knows its been bashed around about the US entry into WWII 50 years plus after the fact at the hands of Theordore Rooselvet.

But George W. Bush is NOTHING like Adolf Hitler. I suggest you look into the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and take a very close look at the transition of the Weirmar Republic and the rise of the the Nationalist Socialist Party of Nazi Germany and the actions done during WWII.. George Bush is not perfect (Neither any Republican or Demorcrat in office is in my eyes).. But his order of the US into Iraq is a minor tea party compared to Adolf Hitler.

Well I have rambled enough about my personal opinions here. But I too am a active duty member of the US Armed Forces.. I know what Trevors team is going through..and I support them.

Thanks. I don’t have anything to add, other than that I will be posting my experiences in Iraq regularly, and that my readers will be able to decide for themselves if we are doing the right thing or the wrong thing. Unless I am given an order which is unlawful or immoral, I will complete every mission I am given, whether I agree with it or not.

I would like to once again thank you guys for serving.

It does not matter if you are for or against the war they are doing there job it is the people and congress back home’s job to decide if the war is or is not justified. If you do not like what is happening in America it is your duty to change it.

For or against the war it took a lot of courage and strength to run across Iraq and remove a dictator in a matter of weeks.

I don’t like the President but the American people did elect him not once but twice and I also blame the Democrats for voting John Kerry when they could have voted for a third party. I also blame congress for not declaring the war but the soldiers are doing their job to protect the country because congress allowed them to go over there and now they are helping the people of Iraq .

    Also Wordpress is great.
