I have the XD sub compact 40 and love it. the accuracy is about 20 25 yards not more then that. The recoil is not bad at all. I have had the privelage to fire the S&W 40 as well and it fires Great. 25 to 28 yards when firing,my friend the owner of the pistol can hit targets at 30 plus yards. In firing both pistols I find the XD is lighter, easier on the wrist especially if you have the extended mag. easier to grip. The S&W little heavier, bigger mag. and can hit a target at a futher distance. Both have similar features. I believe either would be a Great Pistol to carry as a concealed weapon or just to fire at the shooting Range.

I own both the XD 40 sub-compact and the smith and wesson M&P 40 the compact version and they both shoot great and both have some of the same features. The MP has chamber indicator, slide release on both sides so it's perfect for righty or lefty. Mag release can be swithed to the other side if you are left handed.and the best feature is if you drop the mag out with one still in the chamber it won't fire it has a safety.
the XD has similar features some not as good but still good chamber indicator thumb and trigger safety mag release on both sides for righty or leftyit has more weighted down nose so that you naturally hold the gun level.
I love both of these but my favorite of the two has got to be my M&P because it just shoots so much better

Nevertheless there will always be a minority who will not get the point you are trying to make....

I bought a smith & wesson m&p 45. I loved the feel of the gun and the variable grip changes they offered. After firing the first box of 50 I was very impressed. After the 3rd box of shells I noticed the grouping of the weapon was spreading. At 200 rounds the target looked like I was shooting a shotgun. This was at 7, 15 and 25 yards. the further I got away from the target the worse. I returned the weapon and got a full refund. I purched a Springfield 1911 and I love it.
