I’ve completed my first workout on the Bowflex Extreme. My wife will be taking pictures of my progress over the next 90 days to show whether or not the Bowflex commercials represent anything close to reality.
I’m starting my Bowflex regimen with some initial impressions that might be helpful to people thinking about purchasing a Bowflex. There are a number of models and prices. My model is the Bowflex Extreme XTLU. After having assembled this model and performed my initial workout, I am somewhat irritated by how much time I had to spend playing with the cables. I spent about half my workout time playing around with the cable and pulley system. If I could do it over, I would probably choose the Bowflex Extreme 2, although it does cost several hundred dollars more.
Barring that, however, I was pretty happy with the quality of my workout and the included Bowflex i-Trainer software. I’ll discuss the i-Trainer software in more detail later when I have some data collected.

Too skinny for what?
Trevor,
Is this blog still active? How did you workouts progress using bowflex? I’m thinking of getting a bowflex. Actually put a little site together with info I gathered (http://www.ezhomegym.com). Your thoughts about bowflex would be appreciated.
cheers
I recently purchased an Extreme 2 and so far things are going well. I am by know means giving up my gym membership, but it is a great plan B. As a single Dad that can’t always make it to the gym it comes in handy. Eventhough I got a good deal on the machine at a local store it was expensive. I got the 410 upgrade and I would recommend that for anyone who is serious about using the bowflex. To be honest I wish it went heavier than 410, but it’s good enough when I can’t make it to the gym. Before I purchased the machine I tried out the chest press with 310 pounds and I wasn’t impressed. I felt like I could have done as many reps as I wanted so they gave me new rods and a 410 upgrade before I bought it. I’ve had a little trouble with cables getting tangled, but that would be my only major complaint. I would recommend buying a good used one if you could find one I did.

My Extreme has been sitting under piles of stuff since I got back from Iraq. I just now got my workout room cleaned out.
There is a company called Play it Again Sports that sells used Bowflex equipment.
