The tale of the purple fingers

Today, pictures of smiling Iraqis holding up purple fingers are being broadcast all over the world. I’m glad.

They came, they voted, and now they will get a new government of their own choosing. Certainly, the process is far from perfect. It’s also a far cry from the 100% Saddam Hussein received when he held “elections.” Iraq is being reborn. The direction is being decided by everyone instead of one man. Which election do you think Iraqis felt better about?

I am glad I was here to see this happen.

Thanks for serving and winning. Yes, some of us know we are (and 11 million Iraqi's can't be wrong) winning on every front (Political, military and economic) you must win to defeat an insurgency - except in parts of our congress. However, even most democrats know we have to finish the job you are doing. These democrats, however, don't get the MSM attention. We appreciate you!!
  • Trevor,

Excellent. I like that. Am ready to listen to more details.

ps. There is still time to cancel my January flight to Bangkok, and pick up a laptop, ---if flying to Kuwait meant on to Iraq and blogging away.

  • Kitanis,

Fat chance. The politicians are politicians, after all. They have no souls.

    Dan,

I don't know what to tell you other than that you shouldn't let a rule stop you from doing something you want to do and that you think is the right thing to do.

    Jake,

    You're 100% right. Saddam was 100% wrong.
  • I am glad to see the happy people of Iraq casting their vote and I hope they get a good Republican form of government (notice I did not say a democracy).

Yes the good days of you vote for me or I will track you down and kill you.
  • Trevor,

The MSM has been reasonably fair over here in CONUS on reporting the election in Iraq. (The positive outcome made it very difficult for them to do otherwise.) However, they now have found a way to "neutralize" the whole story. How? Yet a new spin on the get-Bush playbook. This variation: A "leak" indicating, or suggesting, or implying that Bush "violated" some law or other by snooping on Americans domestically. This breaking story is now elbowing the Iraq Election off page one. Isn't that clever? Are you impressed with "the best and the brightest" who could easily get the kind of access in Iraq which I am still trying to get?

Meanwhile, despite my experience with and ragging of the MSM going all the way back to Vietnam and The Saigon Post( "Newsweak," 'The Dire Wire Mire',etc. etc, getting myself in trouble with them decades ago) I now learn that in order to blog independently in Iraq, as an alternative to the MSM, I must get some MSM to "vouch" for me.

Well, let's see what can be done.

    Carry on, Sergeant!

    Agreed Trevor

Now, if we can convince the politicans in this country to stop using the event as a political tool against the present administration.. maybe there will be more progress on getting this finished down the road.

I really believe that people in this country need to start looking at their right to vote in the same way the Iraqi's are now and not taking it for granted.
