Those whose spiritual consciousness nature is bewildered and cocooned by belief alone because they know nothing except what their earthly priests tell them.

This is an article designed to provide deeper insight into the behavioral pattern of symbolism in recipients. The language of symbolism is coded and can be understood through a deeper understanding of higher realities. Buried in self-description and veiled in allegory, symbolism is illuminated by the secret reflection of its meaning.

I once informed my readers at some point that symbolism is the main tool used by the divine to communicate with humanity. In literal terms, symbolism simply means that what you see is not what it is. It is a practical representation of something that has a deeper meaning or a representation of things that have deep hidden cosmic meanings.

This is the age of advanced science and technology, therefore, knowledge will increase in different dimensions, but it is obvious that science and technology cannot explain everything and may not be able to create a well-ordered society, hence the need to look further. In seeking further, one should keep an open mind and be ready to accept new facts as they unfold to direct human consciousness in the right direction.

Further spiritual studies of symbolism show how people’s psychology and emotions are affected by it. A healthy society is achievable if symbols and Christian spiritual ritual symbolism are treated with respect. So when we refer to the psychology of spiritual symbolism, we are looking at the use of certain special figures or identifying marks to signify a religious message or a divine being, such as the cross for Christ and the Christian faith.

Within the Christian framework, existentialism is an accepted principle, and for that to be anything there must be things that are tangible, that the eyes can see and appreciate whether it is in worship, sacrifice or even ceremonies, hence the phenomenological perspective of the Christian religion. Having established the value and inevitability of existentialism and phenomenology in the Christian religion, a crucial question seems to arise here.

As one wonders if symbolism is really part of the Christian religion, as it is in other religions, if so, what is the importance of such symbols and what should be experienced? What are their influences on the Christian who desires to worship God in spirit and in truth?

As we have them in traditional African religion, one may want to know if the use of such symbols in a traditional religious environment could lead to idolatry. This is a serious question that calls for an answer. Before the advent of Christianity in this part of the globe, our ancestors were engulfed in the use of different types of Traditional Spiritual Symbols (TSS). They used it to decorate their communities and thus realized a healthy, secure and better traditional society.

Obviously, however, most of these symbols have to do with shrines and spirits, but do they represent and convey the same meanings in the pantheon? Or are they mere images of real or imagined objects that invoke feelings or are invoked by feelings? With modernity and Christianity’s raid on symbols, especially traditional religious types, does the Christian today still believe in and support these symbols in their traditional sacredness?

Different people would answer these questions differently. People in the Southeast would definitely have a different answer, while people in the South-South and South-West would definitely have a different view depending on their cultural values, orientation and tradition, regardless of their faith. The point here is to understand the reality in these symbols. Research to find out further whether such symbols are still revered by modern Christians is much needed and will further help us to verify the psychology behind such a belief.
